ALL YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RAMBLERS BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK
The Balduck Mountain Ramblers is a Detroit-based acoustic quartet. Since 1984 they have been dedicated to playing the finest American Stringband musics.
Named after one of the few topographic features on the northeast side of
Detroit, this group's repertoire ambles freely from Bluegrass to Western Swing,
Folk to Sea Chanties, Pub Tunes, Gospel, A Capella - no lyric or musical genre can be considered safe when they are on a roll.
While this style of programming makes them hard to categorize, they have delighted audiences around the
region.
In southeastern Michigan they are "Detroit's favorite whatzit band"
(Larry McDaniel, WDET FM 101.9).
The band's philosophy dictates that it's not what you play, it's how you play it. All four
Ramblers graduated from a now defunct Prep school on the city's east side and have been singing
together in one form or another since 1970.
JOHN DENOMME, guitar, bass fiddle & vocals, is the Ramblers'
only full-time musician. He plays and records with several bands in addition to
promoting concerts and musical events.
MIKE SAWICKI, bass fiddle & vocals, is a lawyer by trade and
a purveyor of silly songs by habit.
JOEL STONE, mandolin & vocals, instinctively chose the lightest
of the instruments. During the sunny hours he is an illustrator and designer.
KEVIN TAYLOR, banjo, mandolin, guitar, dobro, steel guitar & vocals,
divides his time between work, family and any instrument with strings (not necessarily
in that order).
